2016 Skibbereen Arts Festival
If you are looking to see whats on in West Cork over the next few weeks, the much-awaited Skibbereen Arts Festival is set to kick off this Friday, the 22nd of July where the whole town will reverberate to the sounds of the 60s as we “go back in time” to the Summer of love. Local shops and businesses are set to get in on the action when they will display posters and artefacts from the 60s with staff dressed in period costume.
The festival is set to include events at over 25 venues in the town and it will run from July 22nd to 31st with a further addition to the line up on August 3rd and 4th, where Oscar-winning songwriter Glen Hansard will perform a tribute to fellow musicians Colin Vearncombe (aka Black) as well as Fergus O’Farrell who tragically died earlier this year.
On Friday evening Bridge Street in Skibbereen will close to traffic and there will be music, street theatre, puppet shows, children’s games, arts and crafts stalls, graffiti artists, a flower power wall, various food stalls with fresh local produce and much much more. Later in the evening a special performance of some Beatles songs by the Skibbereen Arts Festival version of “Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” will take place.
