2016 West Cork Literary Festival

If you are looking for things to do in West Cork over the next few weeks, the much-loved West Cork Literary Festival returns to the picturesque town of Bantry in West Cork from the 18th until the 23rd July.

From the 18th until the 23rd July, a range of national and international talent including writers, commentators and poets will descend upon the town for the popular festival. The festival will also include a reading on the famous Whiddy Island which is now a firm favourite with festival-goers.

Younger visitors to the festival are also set to be well catered for also with a Children’s festival running in conjunction with the main Literary Festival, throughout the week. Gloria Steinem, John Banville, Carol Drinkwater, Alice Carey, Darren Shan, Louise De Bernieres and Zadie Smith are just some of the guests expected to attend this year’s festival

Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin will additionally close the children’s festival with a fun-filled bilingual interactive session with plenty of music and rhymes to keep the little ones entertained! Fun and games are based on the award-winning Gugalaí Gug! and Dialann Dúradáin, the new Irish-language edition of the global mega hit Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Schull-based writer Elizabeth Rose Murray, who is the author of The Book of Learning – Nine Lives Trilogy –which was awarded the 2016 Dublin UNESCO City of Literature Citywide Read for Children, will also host a free workshop for all on The Magical World of Storytelling.
